Overview

The Assistant Safety and Training Manager is responsible for administering all safety and training programs in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position reports directly to the Safety Training Manager.

Responsibilities

    1. Demonstrating and promoting a “Safety First” lifestyle
    2. Monitoring the contents of the classroom training courses to ensure compliance with all provincial and company requirements. Teaching classes as required ensuring timely training of new employees
    3. Scheduling and/or conducting behind the wheel training for new applicants
    4. Scheduling and/or conducting training for employees who are required to be certified and/or retrained
    5. Monitoring revenue service operations in conjunction with the Regional Director Safety and Training
    6. Scheduling and/or conducting road observations and new operator evaluations on operators as required
    7. Providing assistance and participating in all Safety Action Team meetings to discuss safety related issues
    8. Providing assistance to operators on messenger management or safety related issues
    9. Investigating and driving follow through on incidents, accidents and work related injuries including but not limited to accident investigation, accident reports, maintenance of accident files
    10. Participating in accident review committees to determine preventability of accidents
    11. Updating location safety displays and participating in the selection of the location’s “Operators of the Month/Year” and the development of the Operator of the Year nomination package
    12. Preparing reports as required
    13. Following environmental policies and procedures to maintain a safe workplace for our employees
    14. Displaying fair practice in the work place and using sound judgement when handling employee issues
    15. Suggesting cost saving or safety enhancement ideas to improve safety, both long term and short term
    16. Continued self-awareness of safety issues, new laws and regulations and requirement of district policies and other issues if applicable
    17. Working unconventional hours as necessary or requested by the Regional Director Safety and Training or General Manager
    18. Performing any other management requests or directives that relate to the overall functions of Transdev

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years previous supervisory experience.
  • 3+ years operations experience in a safety sensitive environment (
  • Previous adult training experience a definite plus.
  • Must be able to demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy, and possesses good judgment and discretion.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be familiar with Smith System defensive driving program.
  • Must able to assist in the creation and maintenance of various reports.
  • Must be able to retrieve, generate, and process information in YT solutions, if applicable.
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills.
  • Proven customer service, patience, and interpersonal skills a must.
  • General knowledge of Windows-based computer operating system and Microsoft office package.
  • Must be able to work as a member of the team.
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customer on all levels and be able to work well with diverse groups.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours or shifts.
  • Able to use multi-line phone system and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
