Applicant for this job must hold a valid Class G or better Ontario Drivers License. Must be able to pass the forklift operator and tire installer courses . Must have basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment, building systems and general knowledge of a bus facility. The applicant must possess a basic tool kit and be able to make minor adjustments and repairs to various shop equipment. Perform related duties as assigned.




The Utility Person must be able to inspect, adjust, lubricate and test various shop equipment, including but not limited to:


  • Pedestrian and overhead doors;
  • Wash rack systems;
  • Overhead fueling systems;
  • Power washers;
  • Tire machine;
  • Various hoists;
  • Rolling ladders;
  • Various pumps and containers;
  • Cranes and lifts;
  • Forklift and scrubber / sweeper;
  • Presses;
  • Grinders;
  • Vices;
  • Drill presses;
  • Paint booth.


They must assist in general housekeeping throughout the repair bay, bus storage and service line areas. This includes:


  • Using the Scrubber / Sweeper throughout the facility; 
  • Oil changes on buses
  • Cleaning shop equipment, vehicle and or parts of vehicles, using the power washer as required;
  • Required to perform fare box, destination signs programming and tire technician duties when needed
  • Cleaning and fueling non-revenue vehicles as required.
  • Clearing of snow on walkways and around the facility when required
  • Operating snow clearing equipment, salting of walkways around the facility when required
  • Cleaning of fluid leaks on floor throughout the facilityThey must operate non-revenue vehicle and equipment as directed.

This includes:

  • Transporting vehicles to various locations;
  • Assisting Coach Technicians on road calls;
  • Picking up or delivering parts or items as required;



May be required to complete forms, documentation and or computer programs relating to equipment inspections and repairs, time reporting, accident reports, etc.


Work will be directed by Lead hands, Supervisors and or the Fleet Manager.




Performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms, repetitive hand wrist motion. Some repetitive knee bending and twisting is involved. Some climbing, lifting, walking, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials will be required.


90 % of work will be in the garage repair bay or bus storage environment, with some outdoor activities which may involve inclement weather.


May be exposed to dirt and fumes.









  • 1 year or more of janitorial or auto detailing experience preferred


Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Good oral communication skills
  • Ability to read and follow written and spoken instructions
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and abide by Material Safety Data Sheets and all other safety training materials provided
  • Ability to learn shop processes including fueling vehicles and cleaning vehicles
  • Ability to mix and use a variety of cleaning products
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment such as buffers, scrubbing machines, and other heavy cleaning equipment
